Ingredients

  • ¼ Cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • ½ Cup Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Mustard Dijon
  • Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Honey

Equipment

  • 1 Jar

Instructions

Combine Ingredients:
  1. In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, add the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, mustard, honey and salt.
¼ Cup Balsamic Vinegar, ½ Cup Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp Mustard Dijon, 1 Tbsp Honey, Salt
Emulsify the Dressing:
  1. Secure the lid tightly on the jar.
  2. Shake the jar vigorously for 30-60 seconds, or until the dressing is smooth, creamy, and well combined. This emulsifies the oil and vinegar, creating a stable dressing.
Taste and Adjust:
  1. Open the jar and taste the dressing.
  2. Adjust the seasoning as needed. Add more honey for sweetness, salt for flavor, or a dash of black pepper for a bit of spice.
  3. If the dressing is too acidic, add a bit more olive oil.

Notes

Variations:

  • You can use maple syrup instead of honey.
  • You can also add the ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy. Or simply whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl.

Tips for the Best Balsamic Dressing:

  • Use High-Quality Balsamic Vinegar: The quality of your balsamic vinegar will significantly impact the flavor of your dressing.
  • Emulsify the Dressing: Whisk the olive oil and balsamic vinegar together thoroughly to create a smooth and creamy emulsion.
  •
  • Adjust the Sweetness: Add a touch of honey or maple syrup to balance the acidity if desired.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Infuse the dressing with herbs, spices, or garlic for added complexity.

Serving suggestions:

  • Classic Salad Dressing: It's the perfect dressing for leafy green salads, especially those with strong flavors like arugula or spinach.
  • Vegetable Enhancer: Drizzle it over roasted or grilled vegetables to add a touch of sweetness and acidity.
  • Fruit Pairing: Balsamic dressing pairs beautifully with fresh fruits like strawberries, figs, or pears, creating a delightful sweet-savory combination.
  • Meat Marinade or Glaze: Use it as a marinade for chicken, beef, or pork, or as a glaze for grilled or roasted meats.
  • Dipping Sauce: Serve it as a dipping sauce for bread or vegetables.
  • Caprese Salad: a must have for this italian classic.
